Do all the pieces of the Covid puzzle actually fit?
A serious article? It’s certainly not a poem. It’s been a while since I wrote a serious article. I have been enjoyed sharing the joys of my poetry with newfound kindred spirits who have also been sharing wonderful poetry and inspiring words of inspiration, thoughtfulness and learning. All the while there has still been the backdrop of Covid-19. It has touched so many people and life has changed. Many have died and many have lost loved ones. Jobs, families and way of life for all has changed in some way. I focus on us here in the West and I want to emphasise this. I’ve been extremely busy over the…

We are not “culturally” ready for Covid
Definition: Culture: the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts Let’s be honest It hit us like a truck and we were looking in the other direction. The direction of selfishness. On a global scale 35m infected and 1m deaths. Yes, from the new Covid-19 disease which has no cure. But it’s not the complete story. In some regions in the world it is being “managed” better than others. My focus where things are “just not right” is in Europe and I will focus on the UK, simply because it’s where I live and can see it firsthand. I write…

Lockdown or no lockdown. We still have the virus.
A plaster will cover the cut but the scar will remain forever, and it will probably bleed again. I made up the “saying” above. I’m sure it can be found in some analogy or quote somewhere but I think you can kind of understand what I mean. I ventured out on a few errands last week. Not out of the ordinary but for some still a luxury. Firstly, I went to my official workplace for a change of scenery. Over the last few weeks I had become more restless and got the itchy nature of wanting to go out and work in different locations. I live nowhere even close to…

Part 12: Why are we planning to go back to “normal” anyway? WE NEVER WILL
Why bother? This is the last in 12 parts where I’ve written under the title “Why are we planning to go back to “normal” anyway?” I will continue to write for sure. But what of the last 80 days since my first post? Firstly, even if it “feels” like it, we will never go back to “normal”. Don’t be fooled by the horrendous traffic, pollution and guzzling folk who have been in the pub for the last five days. You may have even hugged a stranger…but normal will never return….even when it does return. Think about it? When I started out I had no expectations. It was a release of…

Part 10: Why are we planning to go back to “normal” anyway? RESPECT
We were told one thing but it turns out it was not true. So was it 1500 deaths in one day in the UK from Covid-19? Was it over 1000 deaths 22 days in a row? What, instead of 909, 800? Who knows? Does one human life matter to the powers that be? Health Manager: “Yes Sir, 1425 people died today” Minister:“What did you say? Around 900?” Health Manager: “Er, no Sir, 1425” Minister: “Could you round it down please?” Health Manager: “Er…down?” Minister:“Yes please! Oh never mind, let’s go for 900 today, thanks!” So, how exactly did it play out? Grandparents, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends…I mean, if you…

PART 1: Why are we planning to go back to “normal” anyway?
Let’s begin This evening I spoke to a friend of mine and it was an enjoyable chat. We’ve worked in the same industry for a number of years and we see each other about once every year. What I’ve realised is that our friendship is something that builds each of us as our conversations always include that element of opportunity and the possibilities that are out there. It’s so relevant in the current environment. What struck me was when he said we are six or seven weeks in since the lockdown started and how WWII lasted 5 or 6 years. The NHS amongst other positive things was formed after WWII.…
