The death of the elected government is just around the corner

    October 26, 2020 /

Definition: Government: the group of people with the authority to govern a country or state; a particular ministry in office. The empty ballot box. One day in the future there will be ballot box suspended in motion in a museum that will represent the last election in some country somewhere and it will hold the results of the election forever, never to be counted. So, who won the election you say? The people won and the concept of an elected government will be no more. It will be looked back in history as a farce. Quite cold you might say? Afterall the bastion of democracy is rooted in the ability for all to vote right?…

We are not “culturally” ready for Covid

    October 11, 2020 /

Definition: Culture: the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts Let’s be honest It hit us like a truck and we were looking in the other direction. The direction of selfishness.  On a global scale 35m infected and 1m deaths. Yes, from the new Covid-19 disease which has no cure. But it’s not the complete story. In some regions in the world it is being “managed” better than others. My focus where things are “just not right” is in Europe and I will focus on the UK, simply because it’s where I live and can see it firsthand. I write…

Lockdown or no lockdown. We still have the virus.

    September 23, 2020 /

A plaster will cover the cut but the scar will remain forever, and it will probably bleed again. I made up the “saying” above. I’m sure it can be found in some analogy or quote somewhere but I think you can kind of understand what I mean. I ventured out on a few errands last week. Not out of the ordinary but for some still a luxury. Firstly, I went to my official workplace for a change of scenery. Over the last few weeks I had become more restless and got the itchy nature of wanting to go out and work in different locations. I live nowhere even close to…

    Travels to the “motherland”.

    August 20, 2020 /

Synonyms: native land, homeland, fatherland, country of origin. I always feel a sense of sadness when I think of those people (some call them immigrants, or migrants) who travelled during the Windrush generation and came to the United Kingdom from the late 1940s. In 1948, the famed ship, the Empire Windrush touched down at the Port of Tilbury near London from Jamaica after 30 days out at sea. My first thoughts were: “These people would have been excited and happy amongst a range of emotions. Most of all it was a brand new adventure that would reap rewards…” Around 10 years later in the early 1960s the biggest wave of…

Health versus Wealth — there can only be one winner, right?

    August 5, 2020 /

I’m lost, what exactly is going on now? It’s been a surreal few weeks for me. From feeling tuned in I really could not tell you where we are and what policies are forming the foundation of the new-normal.  I no longer say I’m working from home. I’m just working like many fortunate people I know. I will continue to say fortunate because I’m not one of the millions who have fallen victim to the real world pains of having lost his or her job in retail, hospitality and other sectors.  What is going to be the true impact of unemployment? Will children be back at school in September at the…

Part 12: Why are we planning to go back to “normal” anyway? WE NEVER WILL

    July 13, 2020 /

Why bother? This is the last in 12 parts where I’ve written under the title “Why are we planning to go back to “normal” anyway?” I will continue to write for sure. But what of the last 80 days since my first post? Firstly, even if it “feels” like it, we will never go back to “normal”. Don’t be fooled by the horrendous traffic, pollution and guzzling folk who have been in the pub for the last five days. You may have even hugged a stranger…but normal will never return….even when it does return. Think about it? When I started out I had no expectations. It was a release of…
